Live Analysis Fulham vs Liverpool! – By Joe Prince-Wright at Craven Cottage

FULL-TIME: Fulham 2-2 Liverpool. You can! What a big point that is for Fulham and you know what, they deserve it. What an exciting start to a busy Saturday in the Premier League.

Here a few more minutes. Can Fulham hold out?

TORL! Mohamed Salah equalizes for Liverpool. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross is missed by Tim Ream and the ball bounces to Salah, who taps home. What a game!

Fabio Carvalho, the teenage sensation who joined Liverpool from Fulham this summer, volleys wide. Relief for the home fans.

TORL! Fulham take a 2-1 lead. Mitrovic takes the penalty home after being clearly fouled by Virgil van Dijk. Incredible scenes here at Craven Cottage. Fulham fans are in dreamland.

TORL! Darwin Nunez with a bold streak going in via a deflection after great work by Mohamed Salah down the right. Liverpool equalize. Play good and true here at Craven Cottage.

CLOSE! Salah slides the ball over for Darwin Nunez but his back heel finish is saved. Fulham fans sat behind me: ‘This can’t last!’ But could it? Liverpool is getting pretty frustrated.

POST! How didn’t that come in!? USMNT‘s Tim Ream brilliantly manages to regain the ball and charge forward, then Neeskens Kebano’s shot beats Alisson but hits the post and bounces back. So close to a 2nd place finish for Fulham.

Cautious start to the second half here at Craven Cottage. Fulham sit a little lower and Liverpool are trying to work their way out from behind.

Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott both come on for Liverpool early in the second half. Thiago is slowly walking away with an injury.

HALFTIME: Fulham 1-0 Liverpool – Mitrovic’s header made the difference as Fulham really rocked Liverpool here. The Reds came close on a couple of occasions but Fulham totally deserve their lead, with new signings Pereira and Palhinha being particularly impressive.

POST! Luis Diaz hits the post with a nice effort as he almost sneaks in a shot from an impossible angle. Liverpool so close to equalizing.

It should be 1:1. Andy Robertson is found at the back post and his ball over goal just misses the oncoming Liverpool players. Very good game that.

GOALLLL! That came. Aleksandar Mitrovic heads home at the back post while towering over Trent Alexander-Arnold for a home nod. Fulham absolutely deserve this lead. They have been excellent so far. The home fans are absolutely nuts here at Craven Cottage!

BLOCK! Harrison Reed’s shot is well blocked by Robertson and Mitrovic came close to ending a cross twice. Fulham have a real try here. Liverpool have yet to get going.

Fulham’s supporters are, shall we say, “unsatisfied with the way things have been conducted” this first half. Joel Matip got away with some questionable tackles. The hosts still hold their ground.

CLOSE! Fulham’s Pereira lashes out a free-kick which Tim Ream heads wide, then Joao Palhinha’s shot is deflected wide. Very nice pressure from the hosts.

Luis Diaz got the ball in the back net with a nice curling finish… but Andy Robertson was caught offside in the build-up. Decent finish from Diaz and much better from Liverpool.

Fulham have a real try here. Antonee Robinson flies over the left flank at every opportunity. Liverpool look a little at a loss. The home fans love it.

KICKING OFF: And a very good chance for Fulham! Alexander-Arnold’s clearance falls squarely on Mitrovic and he takes a few too many touches, then pokes an attempt harmlessly out. Mitro seemed a little unsure whether to hit that or not.

The teams are out, it’s noisy in the cottage and we’re ready. Let’s go.

Hello and welcome to Craven Cottage! It’s a beautiful day here on the banks of the Thames. What a fantastic place to start the first Saturday of the new season.

Fulham team news, injuries, line-up

Joe Bryan and Harry Wilson are out with wrist and knee problems respectively, while new signings Bernd Leno, Shane Duffy and Kevin Mbabu are on the bench, while other signings Joao Palhinha and Andres Pereira start. USMNT duo Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson start for Fulham.

Liverpool team news, injuries, line-up

Jurgen Klopp messed things up all pre-season but we saw what came very close to his best starting line-up in last weekend’s Community Shield win over Manchester City.

Liverpool are without Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Caoimhin Kelleher and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain while Kostas Tsimikas, Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate shrug off all blows. Alisson returns to goal after missing most of preseason with an abdominal problem.

Important storylines

It’s been a wild ride for Fulham in the past five seasons, with two relegations and three promotions to the Premier League. Life at Craven Cottage is anything but boring. All their hopes once again rest on Aleksandar Mitrovic as Serbia’s scoring machine (at least in the second division) will be riddled with crosses and the hope is he can finally find more success in the Premier League. Marco Silva has been open about the fact that Fulham haven’t made many signings this summer and staying up there will be a huge achievement. Silva loves to counterattack and he needs a good start to the season to build positive vibes. Side note: Fulhamerica are still going strong as Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson will play key roles this season.

Liverpool have had a pretty decent and quiet off-season overall. They sold Sadio Mane in early summer but replaced him with club-record signing Darwin Nunez, who is expected to be the next star striker at Anfield. And oh yes, they also managed to land Mohamed Salah on a new long-term contract. Klopp’s side had some odd results last season but they are warming up well for the new season and the big questions are how Nunez, Diaz and Salah will fit together as a forward trio and how much gas will Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcanatara give went into the tank to get all four trophies.
